Hey Everyone,

I’m trying to keep up with posting but sorry this has taken me a while.

Under Physical Monitoring:
I like the Market place event because the mentors can swap ideas. That is really powerful. The mentor of the week films is an interesting idea and I think it could potentially be used for marketing. Another part of the mentoring that you could require is perhaps peer observation. So, one mentor needs to go observe another mentor at work. They can pick up on different methods and learn a lot.

Under Blog Structure and Struggling projects:
This is fantastic! I wish that we could do something like this for our SI program. It would help the program refine practices and monitor the student workers. Perhaps under section 1, the mentors can confidentially express concern to CELT or ask for more resources in another area? I know part of that is in Section 2. Section four is really cool. Do you think Luke could send us a link to that? I think it would really convenient for our students to be able to book online. I think that stepping in when projects are failing is really important. I think it is a really difficult thing to decide what is failing. I might suggest that the questionnaire results be really, really bad before punitive action is taken on the mentee. I like the monitoring process.

Under Guidelines for Mentoring etc:
#3- Perfect! That is so good! Violating #5 causes us to either be terminated or get a strike against us. #10 is key; it seems a lot of tutors and Sis at NW have trouble realizing that it is ok that it is ok to not know the answer. I like the sign-in sheet. I was going to send you all an example of the type we use, but unfortunately I could not find the electronic file.

Under Mentee Survey:
Man, that looks really familiar! The comments section is typically what we use for SI testimonials, etc.

Under Avert for Students:
I really love these…I wouldn’t worry about the lightning, haha. They look great without them. They are simple and attractive looking. I really liked the “Wanted” poster on the next post.

Under Jamie and Melissa’s Role Play:
Haha, I love it. I think it is really important for the mentors to realize that they don’t have to know the answer and they can learn something from their mentees. I remember in one of my first tutoring appointments, I learned a new method of solving a certain type of problem. I actually still use it! A lot of times, if the mentor is free, it would be good if the mentor escorted the mentee to the different resources or locations. That could be looking the information up online with them or walking them to a certain office. The student appreciates the sincerity of that action.

Under Handbook Template:
Maybe a section of dos and don’ts? Some of that seems to be included. I would also give a list of contact information for each mentor so they know what other resources are out there.

Well, I think that is all for now. Luke, Jamie, and Melissa – I am very impressed. I don’t think I would have ever come up with a lot of the stuff you all have!

Bye for now!
Kirk
